Ocracoke Inaugural Earth Day Celebration on Saturday

Inaugural Ocracoke Earth Day Weekend Celebration, organized collaboratively by the local community and Ocracoke, to be held on Saturday.

“We aim to celebrate our surroundings while addressing coastal threats and exploring sustainable solutions,” said Ocracoke Alive director David Tweedie.

At 7 p.m. on Saturday, Reide Corbett will present “North Carolina’s Changing Coast: Sea Level, Storms, and People” at the Ocracoke Community Center. He is the Keynote speaker from East Carolina University’s Coastal Studies Institute.

Starting April 19th, an afternoon tour of the Island Inn Commons kicks off a weekend filled with diverse activities suitable for all ages. Attendees have numerous options to engage with the island’s wonders, including nature walks, history talks, gardening, live music, and stargazing.

The celebration concludes with a community beach fire at Ocracoke’s lifeguard beach, complete with s’mores and camaraderie.
