Ocracoke-Cedar Island and Swan Quarter Ferry Suspended

Ferry services between Ocracoke and Cedar Island, and Ocracoke and Swan Quarter, were suspended Wednesday morning, September 4, due to high winds, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division.

Despite the suspensions, the Ocracoke ferry is running as scheduled. The Hatteras-Ocracoke vehicular ferry is also operating, though on a limited schedule due to staffing challenges. Ferry services will resume once weather conditions improve.

Hazardous beach conditions are expected throughout Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands on Wednesday, with dangerous shorebreaks of 4-6 feet. Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from Oregon Inlet to Hatteras Inlet until noon on Wednesday. There is also a high risk of rip currents along the Outer Banks.
