Cape Hatteras Secondary School: Class of 2024 Graduates
Cape Hatteras Secondary School’s Class of 2024 celebrated their graduation on Saturday evening, June 8.
The ceremony featured 56 graduates receiving their diplomas.
The event started with a prelude by the Cape Hatteras Secondary Graduation Band, conducted by Sean McCroskey. The graduates then processed to “Pomp and Circumstance.”
Following the presentation of colors by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Noah Baker, graduates Taylor Mabry and Sherlyn Mendieta-Lozano welcomed parents and guests.
Valedictorian Grace Vernesoni and Salutatorian Sherlyn Mendieta-Lozano gave warmly received speeches. High school teacher Natasha Farrow, introduced by graduates Abby O’Neal and Ronald Contreras-Garcia, was the guest speaker.
Principal Beth Haneman-Rooks, Class Sponsor Natasha Farrow, and Counselor Karla Jarvis handed out diplomas. Dare County Schools Superintendent Stephen G. Basnight, III gave the Declaration of Commencement. Graduates Isabella Heilig and Emely Macias Rodriguez delivered closing remarks.
Class President Sherlyn Mendieta-Lozano led the turning of the tassels before the class recessed to music by the CHSS band.
