Ocracoke Island Repair Contract Granted by NCDOT Following Storms
The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has granted an emergency Ocracoke Island repair contract to Barnhill Contracting to address damage caused by recent storms.
The Ocracoke Island repair contract, worth $489,000, involves replacing approximately 800 sandbags along N.C. Highway 12 and restoring the protective barrier between the highway and the Atlantic Ocean. This critical work aims to safeguard infrastructure and prevent further erosion on the northern end of Ocracoke Island.
Scheduled to commence on March 4, Barnhill Contracting plans to initiate the repair and replacement efforts promptly. During this process, single-lane closures will be implemented to ensure the safety of workers and travelers.
