The Dare County Tax Department has announced a deadline of January 31st, 2024, for filing complete personal property tax documents for the fiscal year 2023.

Every year, individuals and businesses in Dare County are required by the North Carolina State law to declare their personal property and file updated tax returns at the end of the fiscal year. The end of the fiscal year is marked by the first day of January of the new year.

All who filed their taxes for the previous year will be sent tax forms through mail on January 1st, 2024. The fields in the front of the form should be filled in with the required details and mailed back to the Dare County Tax Department by the deadline. The back of the form is only for informational purposes for the filer.

If the tax forms are not received through mail, it is advised to urgently call the tax office at 252-475-5965 or 252-475-5958. The tax office can also be emailed at listings@darenc.gov. A penalty will be imposed if tax returns are not filed by the stipulated deadlines. Any requests for date extensions must be made within the deadline, which may then be extended at most to April 15th, 2024.
