Visitors to Cape Hatteras National Seashore should leave fireworks at home and attend permitted shows on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.

The Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) reminds visitors and nearby homeowners that possessing or detonating fireworks on National Park Service land is illegal. This includes all beaches from the southern Nags Head border through Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.

Fireworks pose a significant fire risk and can be a nuisance to humans, pets, and wildlife. Consequently, personal use of fireworks is strictly prohibited.

Seashore law enforcement rangers will patrol the beaches throughout the upcoming Fourth of July holiday week.

However, visitors can enjoy two permitted fireworks shows within the Seashore:

• Ocracoke Island: 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, at the south end of the island.
• Avon Fishing Pier: 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.
