Hatteras ORV Ramp 55 Parking Lot Closing for Three Weeks
Starting Thursday, May 2, the parking lot at ORV ramp 55 in Hatteras Village will close for approximately three weeks.
The closure is due to a project that involves removing part of the boardwalk and improving ramp travel conditions. During intermittent closures, off-road vehicle (ORV) drivers with permits can use Pole Road as an alternative route to the beach.
Night driving restrictions on oceanside beaches within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore begin on Wednesday, May 1, at 9:00 p.m. These restrictions are in effect until July 31, affecting several key ORV ramps.
From May 1 to July 31, priority ORV ramps close at 9:00 p.m. and reopen at 6:00 a.m. the following morning. Other designated oceanside ORV ramps will reopen an hour later at 7:00 a.m.Priority ORV ramps include ramps 2, 4, 25, 27, 43, 44, 48, 49, 70, and 72. However, soundside ramps, Inside Road, and Pole Road are not subject to night driving restrictions.
These restrictions ensure public safety and protect the beach environment during specific times. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore urges drivers to comply with these new regulations and to plan trips accordingly.
