Outer Banks on alert for high tide by Central Flood Advisory

The Outer Banks has been placed on alert by the Central Flood Advisory and High Surf Advisory until 9 PM of today, Wednesday, 27th September, 2023 in accordance with updates from the National Weather Service.

Waves of up to 8 ft are expected in the surf zone, and inundation of 2 ft because of ocean overwash. Posing as a threat of property damage, light flooding is likely to affect areas adjacent to the waterfront.

An overwash did not occur in the morning’s high tide, but with today’s evening high tide, elevated water levels are expected to appear at 6:30 PM from Buxton to northern Outer Banks.

Rip currents posing high risk are forecasted for beaches north of Cape Point, while moderate risk rip currents may impact south of Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.

It is advised to refrain visiting the aforementioned coastal areas under alert.
