At a public discussion on Wednesday, the NPS Superintendent talked about the oceanfront houses in Rodanthe
On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, beginning at 6:30 p.m., David Hallac, who is the administrator of the National Parks of Eastern North Carolina, gave a presentation in Rodanthe on the threatened coastal houses in the area.
Hallac recruited Dare commissioner Danny Couch, a native of Hatteras Island, to join the organization.
The discussion took place in the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building, which can be found at 23646 North Carolina Highway 12 in Rodanthe. This location is just across the street from the historic Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station.
The Cape Hatteras National Seashore is a part of the work that Hallac is responsible for.
The Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Civic Association is the one that was responsible for sponsoring the discussion, and everyone was welcome to attend.
The debris from the collapse of three homes on Ocean Drive in Rodanthe, which occurred on beaches within Cape Hatteras National Seashore, has been found as far south as Buxton.
One home crashed to the ground in the early hours of the morning on February 9, 2022, while two homes that were leaning dangerously toward the water succumbed to gravity and fell completely on May 10, 2022.
In the early hours of that morning, the second house on 24235 Ocean Drive was submerged when the water level rose. The building, which was completed in 1985, was often eroded by the waves.
On Tuesday, May 10, at around one o’clock in the afternoon, the third house located at 24265 Ocean Drive was washed away by the ocean. The year 1980 marks the construction of the home.
